Another Podium Result for Commodore Cup's Tastiest Team

Donut King Racing driver Adam Beechey has made it two podium finishes from two starts in the Commodore Cup national series, finishing third overall in Round 2 of the series at Phillip Island over the weekend.

After qualifying seventh, Beechey ran strongly in a wet Race 1 before losing ground with a spin.

"I made a mistake in Siberia in the wet conditions and spun the car, which was a bit disappointing," he said.

The spin dropped Beechey to 10th place, from which he recovered to finish ninth. However, the result was something of a blessing in disguise as it gifted the Tasmanian driver a front-row start for the second, top-10 reverse-grid race.

In Race 2, Beechey made a great start to take the lead from Matt Chick in the first corner. He then put his head down and set some fast lap times as some of his main rivals came through the field.

At half race distance, Jason Domaschenz tried to overtake Beechey in Turn 4 but the move failed for Domaschenz, who speared off the track. With just a handful of laps remaining, Beechey came under pressure from Scott Andrews, who managed to slip through in Turn 1.

"I tried to hold out Scott, but he was very fast," Adam said. "Second place is still a much better result than in the first race."

Adam's results put him third on the grid for Race 3. He held third position for the entire race, despite sustained pressure from Adam Lloyd and Josh Hughes throughout the 8-lap duration.

"Overall, this has been another good weekend," Adam said. "It didn't start off all that well but once again, I stayed out of trouble and raced well and it's great to bring home another trophy.

"Kenton Ferguson has worked really hard on developing the car and it definitely felt better to drive than the first round at Wakefield Park.," Beechey concluded. Adam Beechey sits an impressive third in the Commodore Cup points ahead of the next round of the series at Mallala, South Australia, May 29-30.
